Quench is Cardiff University's monthly student music and culture magazine. It is the largest student-led print publication in Wales, with a readership of 25,000. As Head of Design for the 2016/17 academic year, I have been responsible for a complete visual overhaul (including a new logo and branding), and currently lead an evolving team of designers, photographers and artists to create over seventy pages of fresh visuals for every issue.
Quench Issue 161
A bumper spring edition containing our annual Ty Celf arts pullout, I wanted Quench issue 161 to have a special emphasis on original artwork and visuals - almost every illustration and image was created by our in house team. Contains exclusive interviews with Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly, folk artist Beans on Toast, and our usual review, opinion and feature pieces.
Issue 161 can be viewed online here.
Quench Issue 160
Our autumn 2016 issue features interviews from rock superstars You Me at Six and indie band The Hunna, as well as exclusive gig photos from grime MC Kano's Cardiff show. The front cover is taken from our seasonal fashion shoot, shot by myself.
Issue 160 can be viewed online here.
Prior to my role as Head of Design, I also contributed to Quench magazine from 2015-2016 as a page designer and artist, including award-winning cover designs for Issue 156, 157 and 158.
The Quench archives from issue 159 backwards can be viewed online via the Cardiff Student Media Issuu channel.
